Steve Brauner, editor of the North West Evening Mail in Barrow is to be the editor of the forthcoming Crain’s Manchester Business weekly newspaper.
Brauner
Crain’s, one of the US’ leading publishing houses, has chosen Steve Brauner to edit its first European business newspaper which is scheduled to launch in Manchester on Monday 3 December.
How-Do broke the news in May as a rumour but withheld information about the publisher.
The privately owned US company publishes 29 titles across the US and internationally. It currently publishes just four Crain’s city business papers: Detroit, Chicago, New York and Cleveland.
Publisher Arthur Porter told How-Do that they are planning two editions in December starting on 3 December, a further two editions in January and then weekly from February.
The paper will initially be controlled/free but intends to move as soon as possible to paid-for. Initial circulation is likely to be between 10,000 to 15,000.
Porter told How-Do that eight staff have now been recruited and a further 10 are being recruited.
Porter himself is well known in the regional advertising community having worked here for many years before going off to find his fortune in Florida.
Crain Comms Inc said that: “Crain’s Manchester Business, a new local weekly business newspaper, will be modelled on the established and successful model found throughout America.
“Crain’s Manchester Business will bring breaking local business news to the Greater Manchester area for senior management and small business owners.”
It is believed that the Manchester publication will be the test bed for further city launches in the UK. Brauner has been editor of the NWEM for just over five years.
He has also been editor of North West Business Insider and was previously business editor of the Daily Post.
He told How-Do the opportunity was genuinely exciting and when he learnt how serious and substantial Crain’s was, the opportunity was too good to turn down.
He will join Crain's in mid October.
CN Newspapers have not identified his replacement yet.
