Business North West delays launch, but signs up Business Link as 'founder partner' | Print |  Email to a friend

The man spearheading the launch of Business North West has confirmed to How-Do that there have been several changes at the publication and that its launch has been pushed back from March to April.

Eddie Samuel, the head of BNW’s parent firm Mellor Media, told How-Do that the run up to the launch was “going well” and that he was “pleasantly surprised at the positive and upbeat feel” he was experiencing with regards to the regional business community.

This has manifested itself in the signing up of several ‘founder partners’ for the title – organisations that pay a set fee (rate carded at £5000) and receive coverage throughout the year – including Business Link North West and ‘the other’ Business North West (that being the exhibition).

Samuel said that other founding partners were “in progress”, but that he couldn’t discuss details as yet.

While some are joining up at the title others are, however, leaving with Samuel confirming to How-Do that sales director Doug Ironside left the business on Friday “due to unforeseen circumstances.”

The launch of BNW has also been pushed back to April, but Samuel relayed that the first issue was coming together and promised features that include ‘sport in business’ - looking at names such as Liverpool FC, Manchester United and Haydock Park - and a ‘day in the life’ with Pontins CEO Ian Smith.

A focus on Manchester is also in the pipelines, as is a special look at Mere Golf and Country Club.

Hints of gobbledegook here in my opinion. What on earth IS 'a special look' at Mere Golf & Country Club? A 'focus' on Manchester really is a rather naive generalisation to say the very least. I don't think I will bother holding my breath waiting for this to appear!

Don't you just love advertorial mags.
This is taking regional business publishing back to the bad old days.
Thank goodness for EN and Crains.

Jesus, what next. Wealthstream re-launch Greater Manchester Business?
Wake up screaming....
 4 By Pan O'Scouse, on 17-03-2009 18:07
The boys and girls at Business Link must be too young to remember this the first time around if they're daft enough to spend money on it.
 5 By Owner BNW, on 17-03-2009 18:59
Feel these comments are worth some response.
Real shame about the petty synical negativity in our business - i.e. these previous 4 comments.
If everyone stopped being protective of their own entities and pulled together, then maybe the economic climate wouldn't be the way it is.
BNW Magaizine will continue to support the region's business media the best way it can, let's hope other media owners have the balls and dignity to do the same.
 6 By give it a break, on 18-03-2009 08:50
I have to agree with Owner... a least a little anyway. Leave the sniping out until you've actually seen the title. You might even like it.

Its easy to snipe, hard to actually create something. Give them a break.
 7 By A Treat, on 18-03-2009 09:02
Lighten up. No one takes any of this stuff seriously do they?
 8 By Loggedoff, on 18-03-2009 08:57
Of course Owner BNW it is the publishing communities fault that there is an economic crisis and I guess we're to blame that you can't get a first issue published in time.

If you had the 'balls' (how old fashioned is that) to go to print when you said you would there would be nothing to snipe about.
 9 By Robert, on 18-03-2009 09:15
Akin to Ford re-launching the Model 'T' me thinks!
 10 By Margaret D, on 18-03-2009 09:47
The region could do with a decent business mag, so I'll be open to this when it comes out. You could drop the 'balls' approach from any editorial though Owner!
 11 By Tony Murray, on 18-03-2009 11:21
Fie on you all for being 'synical' about the prospects and editorial standards of 'BNW Magaizine'... A brashly advertorial magazine that promises the least interesting businesses in the region guaranteed coverage in exchange for a few bob up-front and can't meet its own self-set publishing deadlines is just what the NW needs...
 12 By TUB, on 18-03-2009 11:29
I think this guy seems really dedicated to creating a top end mag for the North West - don't forget the article was written by a journalist not Owner. I for one am looking forward to seeing what he produces. I'm not interested in picking holes in something I haven't even seen! Good luck!
 13 By A N Other Media Owner (not a m, on 18-03-2009 12:09
All highly amusing although 'Loggedoff' seems a bit offensive for some reason.
Anyway, in my opinion any enterprise that will invest in creating another vehicle to support our business community has my full backing.
And anyone whos refutes that is a bit short sighted.....
 14 By Now, now, on 18-03-2009 12:18
Didn't your mothers ever tell you lot that if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all!!!!
 15 By Loggedoff, on 18-03-2009 13:43
AN Other why do you say I am being 'a bit offensive'? If you read the thread you will see my referral to the male anatomy is tongue in cheek and responding to the bizzarre and offensive posturing by Onwer BNW.
This was also picked up on by Margaret.
 16 By Owner BNW, on 18-03-2009 14:25
Feel I better respond one more time as this banter is getting quite amusing but let's keep it businesslike eh?!

For info; as if all didn't know; by 'balls' I meant 'initiative', nothing more. 'Offensive posturing' indeed!! Crikey, talk about 'old fashioned'......

There is definately a gap in the market for BNW to be introduced, and is being proved and as all will see in April, in a very updated fashion. Apologies for the launch delay, 'unforeseen circumstances' didn't help our resource.....

My number is on the website if anyone wishes to speak with me and reveal their true identity!........happy to talk.
 17 By Banterman, on 18-03-2009 16:30
Since when did "balls" equate to initiative?
It just shows that the Owner has an a typical male stereo type, Loggedoff and Margaret have the measure of you, but the mag could be good with the right person running it.

 18 By Owner BNW, on 18-03-2009 17:21
Thank you for your mature compliments Banterman.

The mag is good and the right person is running it.

As I say, my number is 07739 330490 if you have the balls to call me to discuss anything you have in mind!

And to quote Margaret:'The region could do with a decent business mag, so I'll be open to this when it comes out.' - So yes she does seem to have the measure of me.

No more emails from me on this posting - I've been more tha generous with my responses.
 19 By Loggedoff, on 23-03-2009 08:20
Well that did the job, a good old fashioned bit of thuggery to scare away the critics.
If the advertisers don't pay on time can they expect to be door stepped! Hilarious.
20 By bob the builder, on 23-03-2009 16:19
I've just bet a colleague a fiver this will not appear.
21 By bob the builder, on 25-03-2009 15:17
Well, Owner - BNW. We are in to April next week. When and where will I be able to pick up a copy?
 22 By BORED, on 26-03-2009 11:28
Have you lot got nothing better to do than snipe at people and products you don't even know? I'm really eager to see this mag and probably shut you all up once and for all so that you can get on your own jobs!!
 23 By Jeremy, on 26-03-2009 12:54
BORED - get real! Unlike you (obviously) I have met the 'owner' of BNW. based on that, and based on the fact that this soon-to-be-launched high profile magazine has -

1. A meaningless and incomplete website.
2. No office base/mail address.
3. No formal contact details other than mobile phone numbers.

- I am with bob the builder. In my opinion this 'launch' will not happen.
 24 By TUB, on 26-03-2009 14:20
Crikey, grow up a bit guys.
It's only a magazine, not the Titanic. No wonder the media industry's in such a mess, all this silly bickering.
I also know the OWNER, and believe me the launch will happen.
Rome wasn't built in a day.
Meanwhile, chill out..........
 25 By Jeremy, on 26-03-2009 15:57
TUB - I have met the owner. I do not 'know' him. However, I stand by my opinions as stated previously. Anyway, within the next 30 days we will see who is right won't we?

As you point out - this is not the Titanic. At the same time, the Owner's attitude (see his comments) is amusing. He states "BNW Magaizine will continue to support the region's business media..." (see comment 5) As it does not even exist yet, how can it continue to support anything?
 26 By HONEST JOE, on 26-03-2009 18:13
Just logged on after a hard;and indeed successful day; selling space, and am amused by this trail. What's the prob?

OWNER works, proves so, and others pick holes for no reason; bizarre!

I know somone working on this mag and it's doing okay, late, but okay.

Balls works for me, male or female!
 27 By Referee, on 27-03-2009 09:15
Right, let's have a little self-discipline here. The reality is that Owner BNW is in no position to make any claims about a magazine yet to be published. Just as it is pointless for others to snipe at / comment on something they have not even seen.

So, let us have a 'clean game' from now on.
28 By bob the builder, on 04-04-2009 05:39
It's April - have I missed it?

Come on Owner BNW - why not admit it - it's not going to appear is it?
 29 By Jonesy, on 28-05-2009 09:52
Whilst I am sure neither the north west business community, or the region's media sector have been having any sleepless nights over this, why has the chap who was blowing so much hot air about this 're-launch' only a few months ago - a Mr Eddie Samuel - gone quiet? Has it happened?
