The autumn launch of Crain's Manchester, a new weekly business newspaper, is on course and progressing well publisher Arthur Porter told How-Do.
The imminent arrival in the region of one of the world’s biggest business publishers is generating mounting interest, both in the North West and elsewhere in the UK.
The announcement of Crain's intention to invest and launch its UK operation from Manchester was revealed on How-Do. In the States, in addition to a number of B2B titles, Crain publishes four leading city business titles: Crain's New York, Detroit, Chicago and Cleveland.
Porter said the company was hoping to move into city centre offices in the next few weeks and is currently deciding between four locations.
Recruitment is going well he added, particularly in the interest shown by journalists of whom there will be seven or eight employed. Porter is hoping to be able to confirm the identity of the editor shortly. In total there will initially be 16 staff in the Manchester office.
Porter would not disclose the planned date of launch but did confirm that the anticipated circulation will be circa 20,000, a mix of news stand sales and controlled circulation. He stressed however that as with the States’ experience, the intention will be to convert readers to requested as soon as possible and in due course to subscription.
Porter The format will be glossy tabloid and – depending on ad volumes – will run from 24 pages to 40 per week. Distribution will be centred on the Greater Manchester conurbation.
“It’s a tried and tested formula” said Porter “and we’re very confident it will work here.
“I think the resource, commitment and sheer business publishing experience and clout that Crain's brings, will surprise and encourage the market.”
