Cumbrian Newspapers picked up three gold awards at the Newspaper Society’s annual weekly newspapers ceremony held this year in Leeds. Anne Pickles continued her fine run in 2007 with a silver award.

Thirty five different awards were on offer including two new categories: Newspaper Website of the Year and Sports Journalist of the Year.

The region, as could be expected, also performed well in the sports categories with in fact all three finalists in the sports journalist paid-for category comprising North West journalists.

The region also produced the winners of both the free and paid-for weekly titles in the North for the South Manchester Reporter and The Cumberland News
