The Telegraph Media Group (TMG) has signed an agreement with News Printers Group (part of News International), to transfer production of all future Telegraph titles to Knowsley.
News International has invested over £600m at its new presses at Knowsley, Broxbourne and Motherwell. The decision followed a study by TMG, of the options available for the installation of new presses at Trafford Park, where TMG currently has a JV with the Guardian Media Group (GMG).
The GMG has invested substantially in Trafford Park but this has been primarily related to its new Berliner presses. The MEN itself will be printed out of Trinity Mirror’s Oldham plant.
TMG said the new arrangement will provide the Telegraph with high quality full colour on every page and up to six different sections in the live news product.
TMG said: “The detailed timing for, and the extent of, the transition of printing to NPG has still to be finalised.”
The current agreement with GMG is understood to expire in September 2009 but it is expected that the shift will occur before this date and that both the newspaper titles will be transferred.
