The Liverpool Daily Post has given readers the chance to see what really happens at the paper in a live blog with their editorial team.
It’s the first time a regional UK paper has live blogged a day in the life of a newsroom and they encouraged readers to comment on the editorial process and planning ideas. It all started at 7am and ended at 1.22am when the final pages were sent to the press. During that time 1,600 people logged on and saw columnists recording podcasts live and the morning conference. Mark Thomas "This was a first for a regional newspaper and we had no idea what our readers would make of it when we decided to go ahead. But it proved to be a compelling and rewarding experience for everyone on the newspaper, and the feedback we had from readers logging on the live blog indicated that they welcomed the opportunity for such interaction," said Liverpool Daily Post editor Mark Thomas."We had some praise, some criticism and a lot of very good suggestions from our audience - and I think as journalists we have learned a lot from this exercise.” The technical part of the Blog was run using Coverlitive.com software, which journalists had used in a similar way for the local elections. Mobile phone streaming was conducted through Bambuser and Qik. The live blog has been archived on the Daily Post's website at http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverpool-news/live-blog/
