A new course aiming to provide students with the full gamut of skills they need to survive in the world of ‘21st century journalism’ has opened its doors in Oldham.
Facing up to new challenges
This week sees the first intake of recruits to the BA (Hons) in Digital Journalism at University Centre Oldham, part of the University of Huddersfield.
Students attending the course will be immersed in the world of the modern multi-tasking online news room, learning tricks of the trade that include; editing audio and video, filming interviews, uploading web content, interviewing skills, media law and shorthand.
Senior lecturer Mark Handscomb described the course as a “supercharged” version of existing Huddersfield based degrees, adding: “It will enable students to work in a multi-platform environment, whether it is in television production, radio or online journalism.
The course will be housed in Oldham’s new £5m education centre, which also opens this week.
