Edwin Booth, chairman of the independent Lancashire retailer Booths, has confirmed he will be the key speaker at the announcement of the results of this year’s Top 100 Brands at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester on Tuesday 18 November.
The Top 100 Brands initiative is produced and delivered in association with leading law firm Hill Dickinson and with the support of the CBI, the CIM and four of Bauer’s radio stations: City Talk and Radio City, Key 103 and Rock; as we seek to identify the region's best known and most admired brands.
Last year, at the inaugural event announcing the results of the survey, over 150 senior representatives of the Top 100 attended the gathering at Urbis and this year we are expecting around 200 guests. The chamber orchestra Manchester Camerata will also be performing a selection of pieces on the evening. The Camerata is the Chamber Orchestra-in-Residence at the Bridgewater Hall.
Edwin Booth was co-incidentally nominated as the North West’s Top Marketer by a panel of independent judges brought together by How-Do earlier this year.
Booth, who became chairman of the company in 1997, is a fifth generation member of the family. He joined the business immediately after school and acquired a taste for the marketing aspects of the retailer and is widely credited with reinventing the marketing
John Bishop
function at Booths and positioning it at the heart of all the company’s operations. He has been a finalist in Ernst & Young’s “Master Entrepreneur of the Year” and is a past IoD “Director of the Year” for Lancashire and the North West.
In addition to Edwin Booth, we are delighted that semi-pro footballer turned business executive turned comedian John Bishop has agreed to compere the evening. Bishop’s personal experiences of climbing up the corporate ladder are likely to provide an additional alternative insight, or two, into the machinations behind brand reputation…he is also a presenter on City Talk.
Hill Dickinson’s managing partner, Peter Jackson, completes the line-up of speakers on the evening. With over 1,000 staff across its offices in Liverpool, Manchester, Chester and London, the firm is acknowledged as a leading national player with particular regional strengths.
North West members of the CBI (Confederation of British Industry) and the CIM (The Chartered Institute of Marketing) have their own dedicated sites at which they can nominate their chosen brands.
Such rankings of recognised brands are regularly undertaken on a national or international basis, but this is the only compilation that is undertaken solely for the North West. All four lead participants – How-Do, Hill Dickinson, the CBI and the CIM – believe the region is home to so many successful brands, it more than deserves its own showcase.
For this, the second year of the initiative, we are delighted that four of Bauer Radio's leading North West radio stations: Radio City and City Talk of Liverpool, Rock FM of Lancashire and Key103 of Manchester, have joined us in the initiative and are actively encouraging their one million plus listeners across the region to submit their votes via four specially created areas of their respective websites. In addition to the CBI’s and the CIM’s North West members, How-Do is currently attracting around 40,000 regular unique visitors a month so the potential voting audience is huge and extremely influential. Because the voting base includes such a substantial number of North West media, marketing and business people, the results of this initiative will have particular resonance with the successful North West companies involved.
However, the addition of the four stations to the mix should also allow us to access views from a more consumer and populist perspective to complement How-Do's and our partners' primarily B2B focus. We hope this will result in a poll which offers an even wider variety of views and opinions reflecting different interest groups in the region.
We have introduced some new categories this year including most ethical/CSR-focused brand and best brand marketing.
The research is once again being conducted and overseen by one of the UK’s leading independent research companies, Ci, based in Cheshire. Ci works for Royal & Sun Alliance, Bayer, RBS, TNT and a number of national and international companies – household brands themselves!
