Mike Fahy, editor of EN magazine is to join Crain’s new weekly Manchester business newspaper as a senior business reporter. His predecessor at EN and former Insider editor Martin Regan will replace him.
Fahy
Fahy, 34, has been with EN’s parent Excel Publishing for nine years, the latter two and a half as editor of the monthly business title. He was previously a reporter on EN and prior to that worked on Excel’s various construction titles.
He began his journalistic career at McMillan Scott, now Ten Alps.
He told How-Do he was “greatly enthused by the new challenge ahead.” He will be bidding goodbye to EN readers at the EN ‘Deals of the Year Awards’ this evening at Tatton.
Crain’s Manchester Business is due to launch on Monday 17 December with two further editions due in January. It will go weekly in February next year. Seventeen thousand copies of Crain’s will be controlled circulated to businesses across the conurbation and a further 3,000 will be available via news stands. It is the US company’s first launch of the ‘Crain’s’ business weekly brand outside the US.
Other appointments at the title include Simon Binns and James Chapelard as business reporters and Angela Tattersall as research editor. The acting managing editor, Jim Breiner has also agreed to delay his return to the States from December until mid February.
EN magazine, launched in 1995 has a claimed circulation of c12, 000. Excel, which employs 160 staff, promotes itself as the largest independent publisher in the north of England.
Regan
Regan, who has recently been spending more time bedding down the acquisition of Imprint Publishing, insists his return as editor of EN will not be temporary.
“Mike has been with us for nine years and he’s a great journalist. We don’t regard Crain’s as a rival and I'm sure I can still show Mr Brauner and his hillbillies a trick or two.
I’m looking to reintroduce humour and analysis into the title but we’ll let Crain’s and Insider fight out for the boring lists while we hopefully get people talking again.
"It’s certainly an interesting time to be in business publishing in Manchester.”
