Newsquest is facing online opposition to its plans to move the editorial staff from the Bury Times to Bolton as part of its far-reaching regional cutbacks.
Supporters of the paper have started a Facebook group (pictured) demonstrating against the proposals and urging users to show their backing for the paper and its spiritual home. The homepage explains why the campaign has been initiated. A statement notes: “The Bury Times has been in Bury for 153 years, but Newsquest plans to move its editorial staff to Bolton in January. “This will mean that reporters based more than seven miles away will be writing about news in Bury, Radcliffe, Prestwich, Whitefield, Tottington and Ramsbottom. “Please show your support for the editorial staff and the future of the newspaper by joining this group and contacting management to raise your concerns.” www.burytimes.co.uk Something to add?
