Flux magazine has stepped out from its regional base and will now be available nationwide through a new WHSmith’s distribution agreement.
The irreverent fashion, art and culture title, which was launched in Manchester in 1997 by founding editors Lee Taylor and Claire Lomax, is already available through Borders and, as a result of the new distribution channel, has upped its print run to 60,000.
Taylor was enthused about the development when approached by How-Do, commenting: “As far as we’re aware this is the first time a regional magazine from the north west has secured true nationwide shelf space in Smith’s. It takes us on to a whole different level.”
The September/October issue is the first to appear in store nationally and features a new cover tag line to communicate its proposition to potential customers.
“It’s ‘a unique slant on fashion, art, music, film and culture’,” explained Taylor. “We think that sums up what the magazine’s about and should help us reach a new audience.”
He continued: “As an independent magazine we’re not interested in looking beyond the current print run and retailers just yet. Instead we’ll just be focusing on consolidating this new position and simply enjoying doing what we do.”
Flux is available bi-monthly and has a cover price of £3.50. The current issue features articles on Daft Punk, The Future of Brands, John Cassavetes and Siouxsie Sioux. Something to add? Then leave a comment below or email us now.
