Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, the largest Chamber of Commerce in the UK, has awarded the contract for the publication of its official members' title "53 Degrees" to Ten Alps Publishing.
In addition to the monthly title, Ten Alps will also be responsible for the web site and will be creating a number of new digital features for the web site.
Angie Robinson, chief executive of the Chamber, said: "We are delighted to be working with Ten Alps Publishing and look forward to a long relationship with them. Greater Manchester Chamber is the largest in the UK representing some 5,000 businesses in the North West region. We know from our customer research and by talking to our members, that one of the things they value most about their membership is the monthly magazine they receive. Together with Ten Alps, we will work to ensure that 53 Degrees continues to go from strength to strength."
Scott Masheder, managing director of Ten Alps Publishing North, based in Manchester, said, "We are delighted that Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce has chosen to award this contract to Ten Alps Publishing. In recent years we have extended the services we offer to our clients to embrace wider communication issues - we offer first class web development, event management and video production to name only a few.
"As the world of communication evolves we are uniquely positioned as part of the Ten Alps group to develop and deliver new media models and are leaders in on line publications and video based web content and channels. In awarding the contract for 53 Degrees to Ten Alps Publishing, Manchester Chamber recognises the services we offer go far beyond those provided by the traditional B2B publisher and we look forward to a long-term and successful working relationship."
There are three publishing companies in the UK which between them manage the majority of the larger Chamber business publications: Ten Alps (through its Manchester, Macclesfield and Gateshead offices), Excel (in Manchester and Stockport) and Redactive in London.
Excel and the Manchester Chamber do not enjoy a good relationship – Excel decided to launch its own version of a Chamber-style title in competition with the official Chamber – while Redactive, for undisclosed reasons, resigned the Manchester Chamber business earlier this year.
The value of the contract has not been disclosed but it is likely to be a substantial six figure sum. The basis of the agreement has also not been revealed but typically the publisher will pay the Chamber an agreed monthly fee but will pockets all the gross profit, providing an incentive to maximise the sales effort.
How-Do broke the news a fortnight ago, that Ten Alps is planning to open production offices in Manchester this summer to commission and support broadcast production of its expanding range of digital and broadcast media channels.
