The Irish Times is to expand its distribution beyond London and the South East to include Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham and Cardiff.
If the trial goes well, the independent publisher said it may increase the distribution further to include Scotland.
The international edition is printed in London, Spain and the US. In the UK distribution is handled by the Financial Times whose Manchester office will help to manage the regional expansion.
The paper is currently available in around 2,000 retail outlets throughout London and the South East. The number of outlets is expected to double. The paper retails for £1 and is published six days a week. Fran Walsh, head of the paper’s international circulation team said: "We've always been aware that there is a sizeable potential market in the Irish community and those interested in Ireland beyond the original launch area."
