Warrington-born and bred celebrity Kerry Katona – recently more (in)famous for her Iceland advertising appearances rather than her former Atomic pop career – yesterday accepted ‘substantial’ damages from The Sunday Mirror over claims that she had worked as a prostitute.
Katona: embarrassed The singer and reality TV regular sued the paper following a story that appeared on the 22 June, in which the Mirror claimed that Katona’s mum was writing an autobiography containing an allegation that she had worked in the oldest profession prior to achieving fame. However, the weekend title printed a page two apology to Katona on Sunday, preparing the ground for a statement from her lawyer outside London’s High Court yesterday. David Price, acting for Katona, said: “The truth is that Sue Katona has never alleged that the claimant worked as a prostitute in a book or at any other time and such an allegation would be entirely untrue. “Moreover, Sue Katona has not to date written an autobiography nor does she have a publishing agreement to publish such a book. “The defendant accepts that the claimant has never worked as a prostitute and that this allegation was completely false.” Price added that his client was “deeply hurt and embarrassed” by the article” and “particularly distressed that such an allegation was said to have been made by her mother, thereby giving it added credibility.” Tom Reddy Advertising in Manchester produces the long running Iceland TV ads.
