The Barrow-in-Furness based North West Evening Mail has announced the replacement for former editor Steve Brauner, who, as How-do readers will be well aware, now heads up Crain’s Manchester Business.
Lee Brauner left the paper for the new venture late last year and has since overseen its soft launch, prior to its weekly touchdown ‘proper’ from February. In that time the Mail has refrained from going public with a permanent replacement, but has now confirmed that it is set to welcome Jonathan Lee to the editor’s hot seat from March. Lee has a track record that takes in the Westmorland Gazette, The Blackpool Evening Gazette and Aberdeen’s Evening Express. He moved to the Shetland Times in the role of editor two years ago and in that time has steered the title to two newspaper of the year awards. However, according to trade reporting his recent time at the paper has been difficult, with a fractious relationship developing between himself and other members of staff. So much so that there was allegedly a vote of no confidence in him prior to Christmas. The pull of editing a daily newspaper for the first time (the Shetland Times is weekly) is said to have been a major factor in bringing Lee back to his native North West.
