Liverpool 08 guide back in stock with beefed up print run | Print |  Email to a friend

The Liverpool Culture Company has admitted that it was perhaps a little ‘cautious’ with its print run of only 6,000 Liverpool 08 Official Guide’s, and is today distributing a second print run of 20,000 to retailers.
The Liverpool Culture Company has admitted that it was perhaps a little ‘cautious’ with its print run of only 6,000 Liverpool 08 Official Guide’s, and is today distributing a second print run of 20,000 to retailers.

The 202-page book took the 08 organisers by surprise at the end of last month when the 6,000 copies, priced at £5, sold out almost immediately.

This was achieved without the book being available in traditional bookstores (it was only available online and in some M&S shops) and has seemingly convinced the LCC bosses to be a tad more ambitious this time round.

As a result the 20,000 extra books released today will now be available in 2,000 regional newsagents, Liverpool outlets of Waterstones, Borders and WHSmiths, at a host of the 08 cultural venues and, as before, online at www.liverpool08.com

A spokesperson for the LCC confirmed to How-Do that the body had been taken by surprise by the response to the guide:

“It’s always difficult to judge how this kind of product is going to be received,” he explained, “so I suppose we were initially a little cautious.

“However, the reaction was fantastic and it went like a rocket. The celebrations have been on everyone’s lips, so that helped to really stoke interest in it.”

He added that a third print run was now being considered and that 2,000 of the 20,000 printed had been pre-ordered.

The book is being printed on behalf of the LCC by Trinity and was designed by local ad agency Finch.

An odd move only printing 6,000. Surely now there's not the same level of interest in the guides as there was at the very beginning.

Wouldn't it have been worth a punt printing 20,000 first time round? Or more?

Or didn't the council want to get into debt or something....

The big question is where they are distributed. Surely they should be pushing them all over the country and all over Europe. Can you find them in the tourist office at Milan (Bergamo) Orio Al Serio Airport for example?

I agree, distribution is too narrow. I live in Cheshire within easy travelling distance of Liverpool and haven't seen these guides on the shelves of any local shops. Surely they should at least be sent all over the North West.
