Liverpool Daily Post looks to create unique timeline of 20.08 day | Print |  Email to a friend

The Liverpool Daily Post is today urging its readers to join its journalists, political and cultural figures from across the city in creating what it says will be a unique timeline to celebrate 20.08 day.

Today, 20 August, is the day that the city’s year-long reign as European Capital of Culture is reflected in the date.

To mark this down for posterity the Trinity Mirror-owned title is attempting to take an online snapshot of the day by charting what people are doing, what news stories are breaking and what key city personalities have to say – all the way through from 7am until midnight.

A historic day awaits
Readers are being encouraged to send in their own thoughts, photos and videos, while Post and Echo journalists will also contribute through the day.

The idea is to create a rich media archive of the day that will be permanently embedded within the paper’s website.

It marks a further interactive project for the paper, following on in the footsteps of its live blog that lifted the covers on the working of the Post’s editorial team in May this year.

On that occasion some 1,600 were said to have logged on, leading editor Mark Thomas to hail it as “a compelling and rewarding experience for everyone on the newspaper.”

Those wishing to contribute this time round can do so at the Post’s website.

As a message on the site implored yesterday: “play your part, making a piece of Liverpool history.”

I'm not quite sure that Cllr Joe Anderson adding that he's "painting and tidying up the garage ahead of a barbeque at the weekend" is really "making a piece of Liverpool history."

Although maybe the fact that he's doing that at 10.30am on a Thursday explains a lot.
