The London Weekly, a new freesheet for the capital from Global Publishing Group, has announced plans to launch The Manchester Weekly and The Liverpool Weekly by 2012.
It has yet to start distribution in London yet, but aims to give away 250k copies a week on Fridays and Saturdays from outside Tube and railway stations.
A bit of How-Do research has come up against a brick wall, with no phone numbers, nor an office address and just a single generic email listed on the paper’s website - despite listing more than 50 staff in editorial, design and video production.
In the “about us” section, however, it describes itself as a “bridging the gap between national newspapers, Sunday tabloids and dailies,” while also announcing its North West distribution plans."
“The least interrupted and most receptive time of the week is FRIDAY & SATURDAY," it says.
"The London Weekly readers will have to focus on everyday work schedules and a weekly newspaper that covers the best of the week, a guide to the best places and things to do in the weekend and more is just what is needed to get you phased through the start of an exciting weekend before you go into town for a spot of shopping...”
According to the website, the Global Publishing Group is a partnership of 5 private equity investors, headed up by Agnes A Theresa. Although there seems to be no web presence for the company, or indeed Theresa.
