M.E.N cover price rise | Print |  Email to a friend
Monday, 16 April 2007
The cover price of the MEN will rise today from 35p to 38p. The increase will effect all six Monday to Saturday editions.

The news has surprised a number of industry observers who believed the next step for the MEN might be take the title entirely free across the Manchester conurbation.

However, Elaine Darbyshire, communications director at the MEN says it is “Business as usual” and advises that “No one should expect any departure from our extremely successful part paid/part free combination.”

The increase she adds is “Simply to cover increases in raw materials and news print – there’s no master plan.”

Do you mean "all six Monday to Saturday editions" apart from the one that's given away free in town and which I take home three copies of for my dad and two of his next door neighbours?

I do that too Zed for my old mum and her chums in the old folks home. You've never seen such a cheerful bunch of pensioners as when I turn up.

Don't you two realise that the free copies in the city centre are supposed to be read by Metrosexual ABC1s, not by crusty old wrinklies in Chorlton. Shame on you!

I wish you would stop this petty sniping. We have made it quite clear that our 28 per cent paid-for circulation decline is nothing to do with copies being given away free in the city centre, it's because we put the price up from 30p. Which is why we're now putting it up again to 38p. Er........
