Twenty six years after its launch, the Mail on Sunday is to finally merge its sales operation with that of the Daily Mail, initially in Manchester with London due next.
Barker The Mail on Sunday’s Northern sales chief Jeff Barker has been appointed head of the new combined operation with his counterpart at the Mail, Roger Nowell, leaving the company.
Unlike the News International operation in Manchester (which is responsible for sales of £40m plus), Associated declines to reveal sales figures for its Northern and Scottish sales operations which are run from Manchester.
Barker’s team will be at least eight strong but How-Do understands that discussions with all staff are ongoing and no one was prepared to comment as current staffing levels at the two papers are higher.
Nowell Although both titles essentially work for the same owner, it is believed that the papers work on different systems and sales platforms and quite a substantial amount of integration will be required before the two teams are able to operate effectively as one.
Barker was unable to comment while Nowell is now expected to take some time off as he contemplates his future.
