Manchester United desktop news service on target for end March launch | Print |  Email to a friend

Manchester United is set to add to its online offering with a free desktop news service for fans.

Manchester United is set to add to its online offering with a free desktop news service for fans.

The new facility, which is set to launch at the end of this month, will provide followers of the Reds with video clips, match results and news, updating itself automatically as soon as new content is released.

The tool that facilitates the service will be available as a free download from the United site and was developed by Zebtab in London. The firm has already developed a similar service for Chelsea FC, Maxim and Total Film.

It is expected that United, which has licensed the service from the agency, will now extend sponsorship and advertising deals onto the channel and provide sponsors with a new arena for targeting its legions of fans.

A Zebtab executive has predicted that 5% of the club’s user base will use the tool within the first 18 months of operation.

Ted, my understanding is that its UK only for the first year to year and a half then getting rolled out internationally.
The idea is to get it out to the global fan base and make some cash from selling brands into it once its proven itself here.
Should be interesting.

Hi Bill & Ted (sounds like a film...),

I am one of the guys from Zebtab, who have developed the platform that Man Utd are using.

Both the Zebtab platform and the Man Utd channel within it will be available for download globally.

Regards

Rich

Cheers for the info Richard. Did you used to be in The Manic Street Preachers by the way?

You're better off with Zebtab I'd say.

Being a blue, it chokes me to admit it, but what a brilliant initiative and use of new media platforms.

Word of warning to the prawn sandwich eaters though - don't drop your thousand island dressing on the key board!
