The Manchester Evening News has announced that it is making further inroads into the mobile sector, with the initial success of its MEN iPhone application on the Palm Pre.
 App rolls on and out The title launched its iPhone app back in October and it has now recorded some 16,000 downloads, with an average of 1,000 new users per week. In terms of page views it notched up an impressive 330,000 last week alone.In its latest evolution the app has now been made available on the Palm Pre and, in its first week of release, managed to secure the top spot in the download charts (from a competing field of over 1,000 rival apps). Downloads for the device totalled over 1,000, with more than 14,500 page views recorded. The success of the app on the different platforms has led the MEN to begin development of a Blackberry version, which is scheduled for release in March.
