MEN Media has lost the man charged with developing its online commercial and editorial propositions, with the news that Ian Carroll, who only joined the group in November, has left to set up his own business Solutioneers.

Carroll, who has seventeen years of experience in the software development domain, was in charge of a 14-strong development team at the MEN, project managing the delivery of the firm’s entire online portfolio.

This included being central to the seemingly successful launch of the Jobsmine portal, the imminent appearance of Homesmine and  - from what the holding page tells us – the soon to hit our screens Carsmine.

He was also overseeing the development of the business’ editorial portals, ranging from the Manchester Evening News site, to the weekly North West titles, through to the online offerings for the group’s Surrey and Berkshire papers.

Speaking to How-Do Carroll said that he left the firm as he was “itching to set up his own business again” after selling his firm Yandaq (a technical support company for web design and advertising agencies) back in 2001.

“There was some opportunities that came along and convinced me that the time was right,” he said, adding, “I can’t say what they are just yet, but they should get the firm off to a flying start.”

Solutioneers will focus on providing support for software development houses, helping them to maintain their current products and thus allow their own teams more freedom to concentrate on developing new products for the marketplace.

Carroll himself will head the operation, working with offshore teams in Romania and China.

This, he said, is something he knows a great deal about, as he noted: “I’ve worked with them for years and have developed good relationships, which is the key to making this kind of set up work.”

Solutioneers is now open for business. Carroll left the MEN last week.
