More cutbacks at Trinity Mirror NW as axe falls | Print |  Email to a friend
Tuesday, 09 September 2008
Trinity Mirror is continuing to react to the “unprecedented challenges” facing the group with the news that - following on from its decision to close its Liverpool printing presses - it is now set to axe around 30 jobs in the region and close numerous weekly titles.

Trinity cuts reach beyond Liverpool
Trinity chief executive Sly Bailey promised to make some £20m of efficiencies in July of this year to improve group performance in the face of testing economic conditions.

It appears as if many of these efficiencies are striking at the heart of the group’s North West presence, with a hard-line response that will see a myriad of changes, including:

Ormskirk’s Midweek Advertiser and the Huyton and Roby Star closing in Lancashire.

The closure of the Abergele Visitor, Rhyl and Prestatyn Visitor and Your Vale, which will be replaced with The Denbighshire Visitor.

The Formby Times will close and relaunch as a free title, while Trinity’s Formby office will close as staff are relocated to Crosby and Ormskirk.

The number of editions from The Wirral News Group will be pared back from six to four, while its office in Birkenhead will close with staff moving to new premises in Bromborough.

Flintshire BuySell will be closed and incorporated into the Chester and Flintshire Chronicle titles.

In a statement from the company, regional managing director Sara Wilde commented: "Taking the decision to make changes such as these is never easy, but I believe these changes will strengthen the power of our products in their marketplaces and meet both the needs of advertisers and readers in the face of challenging market conditions."

According to reports Trinity has now started consultations with those involved in the forthcoming changes.
