New editor makes a splash at Waterfront, as circulation set to explode | Print |  Email to a friend
Thursday, 20 November 2008
Kerry Spencer, the former editor of YQ Magazine, has joined exclusive lifestyle and property title Waterfront magazine, as it looks to almost double its circulation and push into new geographical areas.
Kerry Spencer, the former editor of YQ Magazine, has joined exclusive lifestyle title Waterfront, as it looks to almost double its circulation and push into new geographical areas.

Waterfront launched earlier this year with a USP of targeting homes that fell into the £750,000+ price bracket in Wirral, Merseyside, North Cheshire and Lancashire.

Despite publisher Phil Harris noting in April that that was as far as the regional edition would expand, How-Do has now learnt that it will significantly extend its reach, and its print run, from January.

The New Year edition will now hit the homes of south Manchester and Cheshire that fall into the £1,000,000+ category.

This will see the title being delivered to the new stomping grounds of Hale and Bowdon, Mere, Alderley Edge, Mottram St Andrews, Prestbury, Dunham Massey, Altrincham, Knutsford, Mobberley and Wilmslow - a veritable ‘where’s where’ of the region’s most exclusive enclaves.

That expansion will push the print run from the current 12,000 to 22,000 copies.

At the head of this charge will be new editor Spencer, formerly features editor and then editor of YQ Northwest, who is currently in the process of ‘restructuring’ the content.

She said she was “thrilled” to have taken on the new challenge, adding: “The title is still in its infancy and with the expansion of the magazine’s circulation, we felt it vital to enhance and take the content forward too.

She continued: “I’m really excited by the method of distribution used here at Waterfront (hand delivery to the properties); knowing that the magazine is reaching its target audience when so much hard work is put into the product is incredibly fulfilling.”

Fellow new recruits Craig Bowyer, a designer, and editorial assistant Laura Sefton will help Spencer in her duties.

Excellent, can't wait.

Really?

Great puff for the mag, but I note that the publisher has not quoted a print run figure in writing on their rate card so the figures look unsubstantiated to me. Its easy to say 22,000 bit harder and more expensive to deliver. Caveat Emptor.

I agree with Loggedoff. Another example of unsubstantiated figures.
 5 By JohnD, on 21-11-2008 10:38
The very same readership already offered by a number of existing titles - nothing new!

There's clearly some jealousy at work here. It's a tough market - good luck to them I say.
 7 By Loggedoff, on 21-11-2008 11:08
Jealousy, that's an interesting perception, there are hoardes of 'publishers' drawn to the flame of exclusive lifestyle and property publishing in the region. What is there to be jealous about?
I am a bit dissappointed that How-Do would publish these alledged print runs when the publisher doesn't appear to be willing to do the same. It adds credibility where it is perhaps not due.

I'm more disappointed that they keep publishing your bloody moaning and bitching Loggedoff. It's getting very boring.
And if they didn't publish such claims then you'd have nothing to do with your time other than, God Forbid, actually do some work!

I contacted Phil and asked him if he could send me a copy. He abruptly told me to go online to view it.
Hand delivered to 22,000 homes! Wow! Thats some walking. Houses of that value are not terrace after all!
The magazine is just press releases. No original content whatsoever.

Tossa, where in this article does it mention it being hand-delivered? If you are going to make a point, at least check the facts instead of making things up.

Clued up ... Before you criticise others.. read the article again yourself! (next to last paragraph)

Clued-up asks: "Tossa, where in this article does it mention it being hand-delivered? "

Well, er, the orignal article said: "She continued: “I’m really excited by the method of distribution used here at Waterfront (hand delivery to the properties)"

So who is rather unclued-up then?
 13 By sillyquestions, on 24-11-2008 16:04
Wouldn't it be more time and cost-effective if the mag was hand-delivered by Royal Mail rather than casual delivery persons? Ah, but then the Royal Mail invoices could be audited, couldn't they?
 14 By Peter Pickering, on 21-01-2009 19:30
So... has this expansion actually happened?
 15 By JohnD, on 22-01-2009 15:45
It would be good if How-do could ask the sources of such 'amazing developments' for updates from time to time. It appears to me that some attention seeking people/firms don't actually do what they say they are going to do!

[... JohnD, read tomorrow's exciting edition! - amazing developments ed]
