Property agents in Leigh and the publishers of www.northwestpropertyguide.co.uk have joined together to launch a new print publication and website targeting the Leigh area. It is believed that the agents have pulled their house advertising from the Newsquest title the Leigh Journal in order to support the new venture.
The fortnightly 24 page publication has a print run of 5,000 and is due to be launched this Thursday. Distribution of the title will be through the signed–up property agents themselves, supermarkets and newsagents.
The website is already live at www.leighpropertyguide.co.uk Gavin Chadwick, a director of the North West Property Guide, told How-Do that his company’s website, which launched originally with the Bury Property Guide, had been approached by a number of property agents in the Leigh area who wanted a property marketing vehicle over which they felt they had more input and influence than they had with the Leigh Journal, their mainstay historically for many years.
Chadwick said that: “The agents feel they have more control of the offering this time.
“Our USP in terms of competing against traditional newspaper publishers and indeed sites such as RightMove, is one of cost (much lower in our case) and usability. We’ve gone for a product which is much more user-friendly than the newspapers’ sites or the specialist property sites. Something which the agents were crying out for.”
The initiative is another example of the increasing number of challenges facing the established regional press and indeed now the specialist national websites which have themselves enjoyed encroaching onto the regionals’ fiefdoms.
The furore accompanying the MEN’s decision to radically cut costs across its weeklies combined with - in particular - Stockport council’s public stance condemning the cutbacks, was met with numerous comments posted on How-Do reminding the council that its role in deciding to pull job ads from regional press to support alternative websites was as much a factor in MEN Media’s (and other regional publishers’) condition as the recession or other cyclical circumstances.
Chadwick added that several more local property websites and publications were under discussion. Some discussions are purely digital and others involve print. In the case of Leigh said Chadwick, the agents were adamant they wanted a print title too.
The Leigh property agents include the area’s leading agents including HMP, Red Rose, Brookendale, Stringfellows, Houghton Homes and Bridgfords. Something to add? Then leave a comment below or email us now.
