Brian Caven, the former editorial director of Citizen Newspapers and the head of IT for Newsquest in Lancashire, has died.
Caven: a legend Caven, who was 64, was a well known figure in North West publishing circles, having enjoyed a lengthy career that took in spells at the Southport Visitor, the Lancashire Evening Post, the Daily Express in Manchester, Eddie Shah’s ill-fated Post and Chester Tonight. He also enjoyed a tour of duty in London and worked on a clutch of national titles. His time spent at the Newsquest-owned Citizen group saw him develop his passion for information technology, which was to later lead on to his head of IT position at Newsquest. Caven was described by an ex-colleague in the Lancashire Telegraph yesterday as “a legend in journalism.” He was semi-retired at the time of his death and is survived by three daughters.
