Nirvana, Madchester and Britpop pioneer John Robb joins Salford |

Salford University has appointed well-known music journalist John Robb as a lecturer, in a move that will also see the punk veteran present student run programmes on GMG’s Channel M TV station.
 Music man Robb Robb is renowned in the music business for coining the phrase Britpop, allegedly being the first person in the world to interview Kurt Cobain’s band Nirvana and for being at the vanguard of the reportage of the infamous Madchester scene.He is also a singer in punk combo Goldblade. In his new role Robb will be a visiting fellow of the School of Media, Music & Performance, working alongside lecturer Paul Barron. He will combine speaking to students on the journalism and music courses with presenting duties on Channel M. Robb said of the move: “It is an honour to be appointed a visiting fellow at Salford University and a great pleasure to be able share some of my experience in music and media with the students and hopefully to inspire them.” Other well-known names lined up as visiting members of staff at Salford include Shameless writer Paul Abbott and former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr.
