North West Newspaper Awards begins hunt for the best in the region |

The North West Newspaper Awards have opened for entries, seeking nominations for the best editorial talent based throughout Cumbria, Cheshire, Lancashire, Greater Manchester and Merseyside.
The awards, now in their 17th year, are sponsored by Sellafield and organised by the North West Society of Editors, and offer prize money totalling £5000 across the competing categories. The categories are:  Sellafield: this year's sponsor News Reporter of the Year Feature Writer of the Year Sports Reporter of the Year Photographer of the Year Young Journalist of the Year Daily Newspaper of the Year Weekly Newspaper of the Year Daily Newspaper Website of the Year Weekly Newspaper of the Year
The winner of each individual category receives £700, with £150 for two runners up, while trophies are awarded to the newspaper and website winners. Entry forms are available from regional newspaper editors, with a panel of two independent judges deciding on the three entrants from each category that progress into the final. The awards will be announced at a presentation lunch in Cumbria on 20 June.
