Outbox fills up, but launch delayed until New Year | Print |  Email to a friend

Plans for Outbox, the new ‘rich media magazine’ funded by the NWDA, are continuing apace, although it appears as if the launch date has been pushed back until Christmas time at the earliest.

As reported on How-Do last month, Outbox is an online business publication that will have an emphasis on harnessing the power of online technology. Daily news, features and interviews will form the backbone of the content - appearing in audio and video formats as well as in text. Manchester’s Junction YK has been charged with developing the site.

In the most recent news to filter out to How-Do, Joanne Birtwistle, a senior journalist with the Insider stable for the past three years, has been taken on in an editor's role for the written content on the site. It is believed another editor will take charge of the audio and visual aspects.

When contacted by How-Do, Birtwistle (who only joined the project last week), explained that she was currently in the process of trying to establish an archive of features and plan for the site’s content. She confirmed the credibility of a previous rumour that the launch date had been postponed from November until “Christmas or the New Year”, stating that more details would become available after an imminent planning meeting with the NWDA.

How-Do believes that further staff are in the process of being recruited, however the relevant project manager for the NWDA was unavailable at the time of writing.

Why are the goverment funding something this when there are already loads of private companies out there doing business info and Ive been trying to get funding for my business for 18 months.

I agree. I've tried for bloody ages to get funding for my website and not got any. But with the company in this article, I smell a RAT. The editor says shes just planning the sites content for launch in a couple of weeks. Thats a bit suspect.  
 
Sounds like the nwda are quickly trying to spend loads of cash before the end of the year to secure cash for the next year. Like councils digging up roads.
