Food, drink and entertainment digital publisher Planet Confidential has launched a jobs service for its Liverpool and Manchester Confidential websites.
The company told How-Do that it plans to launch the new service in Leeds as soon as it’s bedded down in the North West.
Publisher Mark Garner admitted that “We have tried it twice before and failed. The reasons for failure were quite simple I believe, not enough readers at the time, we were concentrating on technical staff and lastly, being tightarses, we tried to do it for nothing.”
Garner added that the decision to relaunch the service was primarily driven by the success that two advertisers, Manchester 235 and then Revellers achieved when they ran some job ads as a favour to essentially support what were paying display advertisers. “So, we thought the time was right.”
The company has recruited Haley Trail to manage the jobs operation . Trail was previously with the Guardian.
Garner said that “The whole Confidential thing has found itself sliding into a virtuous circle, but let’s not forget there is nothing new in the world.
“It's basically regional papers but without the overhead. Sharp, irreverent writing for the no slippers brigade. The business model however remains the same.”The company will be competing with both MEN Media and Bauer Radio , both of whose new regional jobs initiatives, are understood to be progressing well.
The next launch, planned for the late summer/early autumn is believed to be Dating Confidential.
