New visitor guides are launching in Manchester and Liverpool from the publishers of Pocket London.
Pocket Manchester will arrive on the shelves in 3 weeks, closely followed (well 4 weeks later) by Pocket Liverpool.
Described by deputy editor, Tom Henry as “multi-platform transient visitor guides” they will be available in the traditional book format, online and through video.
“It’s identical in design to Pocket London, but with more of a sports bent, because so much sports tourism comes to Manchester,” said Henry.
“They will contain sports fixtures, restaurant reviews and the strength of the product is the maps, which are especially made for the guides.”
A television show called What’s on in Manchester is being produced for the Pocket site and rebranded for Onion Ring. It will also be broadcast in participating hotels.
While some hotels and Salford Tourist Office have signed up to distribute the Pocket guides, they won’t appear in the Manchester Tourist Office.
This is apparently because it would impinge on Marketing Manchester’s relationship with All About Manchester.
According to the publisher, 1m copies of the guide are read in London every year.
