The judges have met and the shortlist follows. Our acclaimed judging panel faced an unexpectedly challenging task as our anticipation of perhaps 70 entries in this, the inaugural year, actually ended up at over 140 entries of which the judges have shortlisted approximately 90. The awards dinner evening promises to be the largest gathering of senior public services communications folk seen in the North West for many years.
Both the number and the quality of the entries took us all by surprise. Not only the additional work load which was unexpectedly dropped onto our judges but also in the variety of organisations submitting entries and the obvious effort invested in preparing the entries.
Unfortunately circa 55 entries weren’t shortlisted and if your organisation has not been shortlisted, we thank you for the time you took to prepare your entry and wish you better luck next year.
The Awards dinner is being held on Thursday 12 November.
Patrick Butler/keynote speaker
The level of positive feedback we’ve received since announcing the launch of this event, has prompted us to change the awards dinner venue from the Reebok stadium in Bolton to Old Trafford (MUFC) where we have been able to secure a larger room in response to the increasing level of interest that is building in the event.
Our keynote speaker at the dinner, Patrick Butler, is head of society, health and education at the Guardian, overseeing social affairs coverage across the Guardian, Guardian.co.ukand the Observer. He oversees what is one of the largest editorial teams in the UK devoted to public affairs and it is hard to argue with the Guardian’s position as market leader among the national newspapers in terms of its coverage of public sector activities. Patrick is also a judge of his own paper’s broader – and national - Public Services Awards.
Detailed information on our judging panel follows the shortlist but briefly the panel of eight comprised Edward Brady/Shell, Sean Marley/Lime Pictures, Mark Critchley/SSL International, Catherine Gort/Bauer Radio, David Boardman/(formerly) Shop Direct, Dave Lucas & Sal Bhatti/MediaVest, Shaun Robinson/United Utilities and Nick Turner/CN Newspapers.
