Newcastle-under-Lyme publisher PSCA, which completed an MBO from the previous owners in May this year, has opened a Scottish office and is planning a number of new ventures for launch next year.
The new team, led by Gordon Warrender, acquired the company from Darren Wilson and his private equity backers Aberdeen Asset Management. Wilson has retained a minority stake in the newco. The previous chairman of the company, Mike Masters (of ex-Trinity Mirror fame) has now stepped down and has been replaced by John Cooling who has experience gained in both publishing and finance.
The company has recently launched a Scottish edition of its best-known monthly title Public Servant. Warrender told How-Do that the company finally decided to base journalists and sales in the new Edinburgh office rather than managing the new title out of Newcastle. Production however will remain centralised in Newcastle.
PSCA is also launching a new biannual publication in August: Public Service Review- Science and Technology.
Warrender said that the company has already booked in between 35 to 40 trade events for next year and had plans for several other new publishing launches but he was unwilling to discuss these at this time.
He did however claim that sales this year will be “significantly better” than last year’s £9-£10m. PSCA’s financial year is end December.
The company now employs almost 150 staff across its four offices: 70 at the Newcastle HQ, 40 in Manchester, 20 in Birmingham and 15 in Edinburgh.
