Richard Catlow doesn’t intend to retire just yet | Print |  Email to a friend

Richard Catlow, the man at the helm of the editorial output for MEN’s weekly newspaper portfolio, until the end of this month, has told How-Do that he no intention of hanging up his laptop just yet.
Catlow: proud of achievements
Catlow has been made redundant from MEN Media as part of a “re-organisation of the senior editorial management team” and will leave the firm, after a tenure stretching back some 14 years, on 31 October.

After failing to track him down upon news of his redundancy, How-Do spoke to him yesterday - finding him proud of his achievements at the business and looking forward to new opportunities.

He said: “I leave MEN Media at the end of October having been editorial director of MEN Weekly Newspapers with a responsibility for circulation.

“In my time our papers consistently out-performed North West rivals in the ABC circulation tables and many showed considerable circulation gains.”

Catlow also noted that he had been responsible for the launch of the North East Manchester Advertiser, the Trafford Metro, Asian News and the re-launch the Oldham Advertiser, in addition to “several award-winning campaigns.”

Of the future he said: “I'm 59 and don't intend to retire yet.

“I will be looking for something challenging and interesting, but also – ideally - something I believe in and feel I can make a contribution to.

“It could be anything from conservation to regeneration, though I don't rule out a return to newspapers eventually.”

Catlow, who also launched the PR firm Catlow Communications, also holds the position of Chairman of the Society of Editors North West.

Richard is far too valuable for the world of journalism to lose - whatever he does, he will do it brilliantly. MEN's loss will be someone else's gain!
