It appears as though the controversial expansion of Salford Council’s LIFE IN Salford magazine is now set to finally go ahead, despite continued protest from opposition councillors and certain sections of the community.
LIFE: set to expand The council yesterday voted in favour of the plans by a margin of 31 to 20 votes, effectively overturning the ruling made by the Strategy and Regeneration Scrutiny Committee at the beginning of the month. However, a How-Do’er that attended the meeting stressed that the Council did not get things all their own way, with Tory councillor Robin Garrido calling into question the cost of the magazine’s expansion, while others raised issues relating to it editorial independence. The Salford Star’s editor Stephen Kingston has been one of the central agitators against the proposal to take LIFE from six 16-page issues a year to 12 24-page issues. This proposal is expected to raise the annual production costs of the title from £55k to £174k. Something to add? Then leave a comment below or email us now.
