More than 250 readers of the South Manchester Reporter turned out to debate the congestion charge.
The one-off meeting was organised by the paper to allow people to hear from the yes and no campaigns.
Hosted by former BBC North West political editor Jim Hancock (now Rob McLoughlin’s sidekick (!) on Granada’s Party People), they finished the evening with a vote. And it seems it’s still on a knife edge with 50% saying they’d vote against the charge and 46.5% in favour. The rest were undecided. "This is one of the biggest decisions Manchester has ever faced," said editor Lawrence Matheson. "We wanted to give our readers the opportunity to put questions to some of the key figures in the debate in order to allow them to make the best-informed decision possible when they cast their vote. "It was a fascinating debate and the excellent turn-out shows just how passionate people are about this important issue." Something to add? Then leave a comment below or email us now.
