Sport Media Group plc, the publisher of the Sunday and Daily Sport, has continued its recent revamp with the appointment of David Bailey to the position of non-executive director.
Bailey, 59, a fellow of the Securities & Investment Institute and a director of some 12 other companies, has been brought in to offer some of his considerable business experience to the current board. A statement disclosed to the market yesterday revealed that he now has 125,000 shares in the group, accounting for 0.13% of its entire share capital. In the same release, Simon Hume Kendall, non-executive chairman of the firm, said: “I am delighted to welcome David to the Board. “His long-standing experience in advising public companies will be an invaluable asset to SPMG and he will make a strong contribution to the Company going forwards.” The firm has undergone significant change in the last few months with the arrival of Barry McIlheney, a revamp of its papers and the recent departure of Daily Sport editor Dave Beevers.
