Steve Hughes to leave Bolton News to become MD of Newsquest’s York operation |

The editor of the Bolton News, Steve Hughes, is stepping down as editor in chief of Newsquest Bolton to become managing director of Newsquest’s York division.
Hughes, 51, will have over 300 staff reporting to him in York. Currently 80 editorial staff report to him in Bolton.
He has been editor of the paper for six years having previously been deputy editor of the East Anglian Daily Times in Ipswich. He began his career in journalism 31 years ago at the Hereford Times.

He is due to start in York on Monday 22 October. At Newsquest York he will have overall responsibility for the daily paper - the Press - and a number of weeklies, niche publications and web sites.
It is the first time he will have overall commercial responsibility for a publishing operation. He will in turn report to David Coates, Newsquest’s regional managing director in Darlington.
The latest ABC figures for the Bolton News were 31,810 copies a day for the six months to June, down 2.3% from the previous year. The Press’ circulation is slightly higher.
Hughes was part of the team that decided to drop the ‘Evening’ tag from the paper’s masthead. Newsquest is now advertising for a new editor of the Bolton News.
