Manchester based tabloid title, the Sunday Sport is launching a 12-page football pull out in time for the 2007/08 season and is seeking a headline sponsor.
The section will focus entirely on the Football League with a match report on every game in the League, promising readers the “most in-depth offering of this level of football of any national newspaper.”
The paper is seeking £250,000 for the title package, which will include front page branding, interior copy and a marketing campaign. The publisher adds that extra value will be added to the sponsorship package through substantial editorial support in sister title the Daily Sport and a heavy sampling campaign.
The paper is keen to stress that “in a departure form the main paper’s style, the pull out will contain no advertising, chat lines or nakedness.”
Sunday Sport editor, Paul Carter, said “This is an exciting new development in the Sunday Sport’s history and offers the right brand a fantastic opportunity for exposure to a strong male audience. The Sunday Sport can truly claim to be the only national newspaper in Britain that cares about the grassroots supporter.
“With the pull out being completely football orientated brands can feel secure that their identities will be aligned with a quality title.
“We already have strong interest from companies in the food and building sectors and will shortly review all the offers before making a final decision.” The paper will support the launch with advertising across TV, men’s lifestyle magazines and online. The latest ABC figures showed the Sunday paper is suffering from declining sales. The audited circulation for the six months to March 2007 showed a year on year fall of 28% to just under 102,000 copies.
