The Bolton News claims that its online coverage of the local election in the town last night was the most comprehensive and informative it has ever produced.
A team, led by David Crookes, spent the day adding content, visuals, video, analysis and stats to a dedicated section of the paper’s special election website. Reader interaction was also actively sought.
Results were posted online as soon as they are announced and readers were able to see an ‘at-a-glance pictorial guide’ as to which wards were won by each party.
The online comment and stats were complemented from 10 pm last night by a team of journalists at the paper presenting live video reports. Prior to the live action, viewers of The Bolton News TV were invited to watch a song specially written for the occasion.
One third of the council seats, 20 in total, were up for grabs.
Prior to the election, Labour held 26 seats, the 22 and Lib Dems 11.
