How-Do has learnt that three regional managing directors have left Newsquest in the North West this week.
A memo was read out to staff on Wednesday to say that three group MD's/publishers all left the company as of Monday and Tuesday this week
Those who've gone are Eleanor Underhill (group MD for Cheshire/Merseyside); Mike Glover (Westmoreland Gazette); and Nuala O’Rourke (Sale and Altrincham Messenger). Glover has won numerous awards over the years for his titles.
Chris Hughes, North West regional managing director of Newsquest declined to respond to our requests for clarification.
The word at Newsquest is that it is failing to pull in enough revenue to satisfy its American owner, Gannett.
As such we’re led to believe that the three roles will be reassigned to one or two other people. It comes just days after Eric Henshaw, managing director of Bolton and Derek King, MD of Merseyside were also made redundant. Underhill ironically was briefly given additional responsibility for King's patch.
