The future of the media industry is to be debated next week at the University of Central Lancashire in a free to attend symposium.
The event – titled ‘If the media landscape is booming, why aren’t media companies?’ – will be looking at the apparent paradox of why, if people are consuming more and more media sources, are many media firms finding it increasingly difficult to stay afloat. Discussing this pressing issue will be: Chris Anderson, editor of Wired and author of the bestselling and influential blog and book, The Long Tail. Paul Bradshaw, author of the Online Journalism Blog and recently selected finalist for the Knight News Challenge, a competition based in the US to develop and fund innovations in online journalism. Peter Kirwan, media analyst and author of the new Media Money blog for Press Gazette UK. Anton Grutzmacher, director of account management at the market intelligence company Hitwise. Mike Ward, the chair for the evening and the author of Journalism Online and head of journalism at UCLan. ‘If the media landscape is booming, why aren’t media companies?’ takes place on 29 April at 6pm.
