North West journalist Gordon Brown has died following a fight with cancer. He was 71 years old.
Gordon started his journalism career at the Warrington Guardian , then, in the early 80s he became a staff reporter on The Whitehaven News.
 Brown He was a keen cyclist and took his passion wherever he went – he would often ride to stories, even taking his bike on the train if the football or rugby ground was far away. He left The Whitehaven News to go freelance, but remained a columnist, with his monthly section, Brown’s Bikes, where he shared his favourite destinations. As a freelance he worked regionally and nationally in broadcast and written media – including Cycling News.
The Everton supporter (a great fan of Dixie Dean) he said one of his proudest achievements was visiting every Football League stadium in the country. Gordon was born in Newton-le-Willows. (Picture: Whitehaven News)
