Trinity Mirror regionals has teamed up with UCLan to enable its senior journalists to learn more about the challenges and opportunities of multi media publishing.
The new programme will replace Trinity’s in-house training course for senior Trinity journos.
A number of editorial staff from the publisher’s regional papers will embark on the one year course which involves distance learning and three week long residential sessions.
Neil Benson, Trinity Regional editorial director said: "We have always paid a great deal of attention to staff development, and Today's Editor has been a very effective way of developing our top talent.
"However, with the industry undergoing such radical change, we felt it was time to look for a new type of programme that will equip our next generation of newsroom leaders with all the key managerial skills, allied to a strongly enhanced understanding of journalism in the multimedia context.
"We are delighted to be teaming up with UCLan, who have an excellent pedigree and a highly innovative and interactive approach.
"We were very keen that the programme should be set in the Trinity Mirror context, so we have arranged for interactive sessions with our senior editorial, digital, multimedia and marketing people to be built in.
"There will also be visits and working sessions involving very senior people at the corporate level."
In August, UCLan announced a a joint venture with the the BBC to establish a new one year course for people who’d like to be journalists but lack the qualifications or experience.
