Trinity Mirror’s North Wales team yesterday launched a Welsh language news site as a companion for the group’s Daily Post offering.
Welsh: Trinity gets a grasp www.dailypostcymraeg.co.uk has been designed specifically for Welsh speakers and aims to give users news, blogs, interviews and comment pieces directly to them in their native tongue.
As such Trinity bosses hope that it will become both a community site and a rallying standard for the preservation of the language, which many fear is in grave danger of dying out. Trinity’s North Wales publishing director Rob Irvine commented yesterday: “Our aim is to build a vibrant site that will prove popular with the hundreds of thousands of people who speak Welsh and that is great news for anyone who cares about the Welsh language. “We hope that visitors to the site will embrace the opportunity by sending us their stories and comments in Welsh.”
