Trinity Mirror’s Sport Media operation based in Liverpool has signed a book deal with Chelsea Football Club. Sport Media publishes official books for Liverpool FC and has also worked with Everton and Birmingham City on their official titles.
Trinity’s successful pitch, which was led by James White, Sport Media’s business development manager, will see Sport Media publishing all of the club’s official books for the next two years.
The first book is due for publication in October 2010.
The contract provides for at least four books over the duration with scope for additional titles subject of course to on-field success and other related developments.
James White said: "We are delighted to be working with a club of Chelsea's stature and hope this will be the start of a long and successful partnership.
“Chelsea has a large and loyal fan base, and we look forward to producing a series of fantastic books for them.”
Richard Milham, head of global merchandise at Chelsea FC, added “Chelsea is excited to be working with Sport Media as our publisher of the club’s official books over the next two years. They have an excellent track record publishing sporting titles and working with big sporting organisations.
“Our hope is that Chelsea fans will read some interesting and insightful books about the club.”
How-Do understands that the contract wasn't secured on a tender basis but that Chelsea and its agent Christopher Little were impressed with Sport Media's back catalogue and ideas on how the publishing aspect of Chelsea's activities might be developed.
