Trinity Mirror Cheshire & North Wales is launching a new free weekly newspaper, The Wrexham Chronicle, on Thursday.
The new paper will replace two existing papers: the Wrexham Mail and Wrexham BuySell.
Trinity said that the new Chronicle will take the best of each former title and aim to enhance those strengths: so a combination of enhanced coverage of news, events, sports and business accompanied by expansion of the motors, property, entertainment and “Buy Sell” classified sections.
The newspaper will be delivered to over 20,000 homes around Wrexham with a further 3,000 copies available for free pick-up at major retailers in the town including Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury’s. The addition of the Chronicle into Trinity’s Cheshire and North Wales portfolio will mean that advertisers will be able to target consumers with an offering which, combined with the Cheshire and Flintshire Chronicles, has a circulation figure of over 110,000 copies a week.
In parallel with the print (re)launch, the title will be available online at www.wrexhamchronicle.co.uk together with a weekly email.
Butcher Kevin Hughes, editor of the Flintshire Chronicle has also been given responsibility for editing the new title. He said: “Wrexham is a town growing in confidence, rightly proud of its improved economic performance and stature in North Wales. It deserves a newspaper like the new Wrexham Chronicle to reflect that success.”
Trinity’s regional MD, Warren Butcher, added: "The launch of the free Wrexham Chronicle demonstrates our ongoing commitment to provide an unrivalled, unique and easily accessible multi media service for the people of Wrexham. The Wrexham Chronicle will sit neatly alongside our market leading morning title, The Daily Post, and combine to provide the Wrexham business community with greater value, choice, service and results."
