Two Trinity Mirror North West papers to go free this Wednesday | Print |  Email to a friend
Tuesday, 03 July 2007
The Northwich and Winsford editions of TMNW’s Mid-Cheshire Chronicle series will no longer be paid for papers from this Wednesday as they change over to a free 30,000 plus home delivery operation.

The Chronicle’s last ABC saw sales of just over 6,000 copies a week.

The papers have been redesigned and new ‘companion’ web sites will be launched in the near future. TMNW has also suspended publication of its five year old free sheet the Northwich Mail.

The third edition of the paper covering Middlewich is being merged with the paid for Crewe Chronicle.

Mid Cheshire editor Simon Drury, 38, has joined the relaunch team from the Runcorn and Widnes Weekly News where he was news editor. He moved north six years ago having previously been editor of the news agency News Team in Birmingham.

His editorial team is being increased by two new journalists next week as a result of internal transfers from other TMNW titles.

He told How-Do he is “unfazed by the relaunch as it’s a new operation for him and he is not constrained by the previous format.”

I love the headline : "Two Trinity North Mirror Titles to Go Free this Wednesday"...

It quite puts me in mind of the closing scenes of "Born Free" and I can't help but picture a copy of the Mid-Cheshire Chronicle looking wistfully back over its shoulder as bounds off into the tabloid jungle to the strains of a John Barry song.

Though, I dare say, just how much "beauty surrounds you" in Northwich is well open to debate....
