Charitable media trust MediaWise is to manage a ‘virtual newsroom’ at the forthcoming Inter-Cultural Cities conference in Liverpool in early May.
Mike Jempson of the Bristol-based group said the idea “Is to illustrate to the 20 plus participating cities the role media can play in explaining the positive impact of migration and diversity on urban life and economy.
“We shall be producing words, sound and vision for an e-zine called ‘DiverCity’ which will be used to promote reporting of diversity issues, especially in cities/countries unused to the concept.”
Jempson is hoping that local journos will come up with ideas and contacts that can be followed up on. He cites as examples news stories or features on employment, business, culture and sport and promises full accreditation.
In return he believes that the virtual newsroom may be able to supply local colleagues with stories. “Think of it as an international story swap shop.”
